“In 1980, when Campagnolo were at or near the height of their power as the dominant producer of racing bicycle components in the world, a small company headed by a Cliff Polton in New Milton, Hampshire seemingly threw down the gauntlet at their feet. They introduced a cost-no-object racing gruppo aimed directly at Campagnolo’s finest. The components offered were hubs, a Ti bottom bracket, a rear derailleur I’ve never seen except in one publicity photo, and a gorgeous, clearly Campagnolo-inspired crankset.”
